Boy Scouts, Homosexuality, and God: My Opinion

If they're going to kick out all the gay Boy Scouts, because they're such a good Christian organization, then they need to take a poll and see which teenage Boy Scouts are having premarital sex and kick them out. And kick out all the Boy Scouts and leaders who don't go to church every Sunday. And kick out any Boy Scout who takes the Lord's name in vain. And kick out any Boy Scout who goes to parties and gets drunk on the weekends. And kick out any Boy Scout who is struggling with any kind of sin... Oh wait. Then there wouldn't be any Boy Scouts anymore.

The fact of the matter is, everyone struggles with some kind of sin. I'm sure I don't need to spout off every Bible verse that says homosexuality is sinful. It's in there. But if you shun a gay child away from your Christian organization, be it scouts, church, whatever- They aren't going to be like "Oh, they're right, I'm sinning, so I'll go ahead and just quit being gay right now." Wouldn't it make more sense to let them stay in the organization so they can be around role models who're straight? So that they can see the "right" way to act?

Case in point: I used to know a girl who didn't grow up with God in her life. As a young adult she somehow got involved with church that basically took her under it's wing and she got to learn about God for the first time ever. She loved learning and she loved her church family. But as all of us sinners do, she screwed up. She got pregnant out of wedlock. The church, this beautiful church that was supposed to teach her God's love and forgiveness, turned their collective noses up at her and made her feel so unwelcome and so guilty that she stopped going to church all together. So now she doesn't go to church, her child doesn't go to church, and she has a severely distorted perception of the God I know.

I've always been taught that all sins are equal in the eyes of God, and if you break one commandment you break them all. I don't see how these Boy Scout officials can kick kids out for one kind of sin but not all of them. Who are they to judge that homosexuality is a "worse" sin than, say, a kid beating up his little brother on a regular basis? Or a leader that stubs his toe and yells "God dammit!" What about Matthew 7, verses 3-5? Doesn't that apply here?

I don't know, maybe being tolerant and even accepting of homosexuals makes me a bad Christian. But for as long as there is a log in my eye, and there always will be because I will always be a sinner, I can't and won't shun any other person who is struggling with any kind of sin. But I will tell them about God's forgiveness if they would like me to share.
